Shaun Marsh injury hits Scorchers hard

The Perth Scorchers have suffered another big injury blow with star batsman Shaun Marsh to miss the entire Twenty20 Champions League tournament in India.

Marsh has been was ruled out because of the hamstring injury he suffered in Australia’s loss to England in the fourth ODI in Cardiff at the weekend.

The 30-year-old has a long history of hamstring issues, but his latest setback won’t require surgery and coach Justin Langer is hopeful Marsh will be back in time for Western Australia’s domestic one-day campaign in October.

Shaun’s brother Mitch Marsh has also been ruled out of the T20 Champions League with a hamstring injury, while Scorchers paceman Pat Cummins will miss it due to a recurrence of his back injury.

The Scorchers will also be without veteran batsman Mike Hussey and all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile, with the pair to represent their respective Indian Premier League teams in the tournament.

Although Hussey has signed on to play with the Sydney Thunder in this summer’s Big Bash League, he was eligible to play for the Scorchers at the Champions League.

The Scorchers fly out to India on Tuesday, and begin their Champions League campaign against the Highveld Lions on September 23.
