Siddle recalled from English cricket

Australia fast bowler Peter Siddle will leave county club Nottinghamshire early next month being recalled by Cricket Australia.

Siddle, 29, is the club’s leading wicket-taker in the County Championship this season with 24 scalps in eight matches and was initially due to be available for the whole English season.

But CA have utilised a clause in the seamer’s central contract to end his spell at Trent Bridge once the four-day game against Lancashire, starting on July 13, ends.

“Peter has been played a big part in some positive team performances in the County Championship,” said Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell.

“It’s a reality of signing centrally contracted players that their national boards have control of their availability and we appreciate the reasons behind this decision.

“I’d like to thank Peter for his contribution so far this season and have no doubt that he will continue to perform in the remaining time he has as a Nottinghamshire player.”

Australia’s next fixture is in Zimbabwe in August, a one-day series also involving South Africa.

News of Siddle’s departure has been mitigated by Nottinghamshire’s signing of New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin for one-day cricket.

Franklin has previously played in county cricket with Gloucestershire, Glamorgan and Essex.
