Sixers set Adelaide 136 runs to win in BBL

Strokeplayer Steven Smith top-scored with 58 as Sydney Sixers set the Adelaide Strikers 136 runs to win Sunday night’s Twenty20 Big Bash League match in Adelaide.

Smith rescued the Sixers from early strife, while a late flourish from Moises Henriques (32 from 26 balls) lifted Sydney to 6-135 from 20 overs.

The Sixers stumbled to 2-10 in the third over, with Adelaide spinner Brad Young, making his BBL debut after retiring from first-class cricket in 2003, taking a wicket with his second ball.

Smith and captain Brad Haddin laboured to 2-28 after six overs, but soon accelerated in a pivotal 63-run stand from 58 balls for the third wicket.

The partnership was broken when Haddin (22 from 30 balls) was dismissed on final ball of the 12th over to leave the visitors 3-73.

Smith’s 43-ball knock ended in the 17th over when Strikers captain Johan Botha threw down the stumps from mid off – a feat he also achieved earlier to run out Steve O’Keefe (four).

Adelaide paceman Shaun Tait finished with 2-13 from three overs.
