Starc ready to adjust MO at World Cup

Strike bowler Mitchell Starc is keeping an open mind as he journeys to Bangladesh for the first time.

Starc could potentially be Australia’s spearhead when their Twenty20 World Cup campaign starts on Sunday week against Pakistan in Dhaka, with Mitchell Johnson in doubt due to a toe infection.

The 24-year-old, who put Australia on track for victory in the final match of their tour of South Africa, will wait until he has a good look at the Dhaka decks before deciding if his approach needs any tweaking.

“There’s a fair few of us that haven’t been to Bangladesh, so once we get there we’ll assess conditions,” Starc said.

“I’ve only spoken to guys that have been there, so I don’t know first-hand what to expect in Bangladesh.

“We’ve got one warm-up match against New Zealand that will obviously show us what we can expect throughout the tournament.”

Needless to say, swing, bounce and aggression will still be in his bag of tricks.

“Attack the stumps and try and take wickets in that first six overs,” Starc said of his T20 mantra.

Skipper George Bailey suggested his side’s five T20 wins on the trot was cause for confidence.

But Bailey noted Bangladesh would throw up different pitches to the kind they’ve slayed England and South Africa on so far this year.

“We’ve done well with bat and ball, but obviously conditions in Bangladesh will be a bit different and a bit difficult,” Bailey said.

Starc believed there was room for improvement, even after his side outclassed the Proteas in every aspect of the game.

“There are some things we might need to talk about, on what we can improve,” he said.

“You’ve always got to think about improving your game. You can’t just rest on your laurels, especially heading in to a World Cup.”
