Taylor reopens NZ cricket captaincy saga

Former skipper Ross Taylor still doesn’t feel comfortable in the New Zealand cricket team and says more details are to emerge over his demotion as captain.

In the wake of the Black Caps’ drawn series against England, Taylor reopened the wounds of the captaincy saga that has dominated much of the New Zealand summer.

The 29-year-old was told he would be stripped of the leadership by coach Mike Hesson midway through last November’s tour of Sri Lanka.

Confusion over whether he was to be demoted as Test skipper, as well as for the short forms, and New Zealand Cricket’s subsequent version of events angered Taylor and prompted an apology from management.

After choosing to skip the tour of South Africa, Taylor described his relationship with Hesson as “a work in progress” leading into England’s visit.

He told LiveSport radio there was still friction when asked how he had settled back into the Black Caps’ environment.

“I wouldn’t say I’m as comfortable as I’d like to be … time will tell, but I’m just enjoying the success of others at the moment.”

Taylor didn’t want to go into detail but suggested more information would emerge on the fallout.

“There’s a lot of things that have happened. Maybe over the next couple of weeks or months, things might get told, but as of now, it’s probably not a great time to talk about it.”

Taylor will represent the Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League starting next week and is set to cut short his commitments with them to play the two Tests away to England starting on May 16 and May 24.
