Vics recall Rogers for one-day clash

One-day competition table-toppers Victoria have recalled opener Chris Rogers for Wednesday’s clash with Western Australia following Rob Quiney’s Test call-up.

The 35-year-old Rogers is in fine form at one-day level with scores of 35 against the Warriors in Perth on September 28 and an unbeaten 64 against Queensland at the Gabba on October 7.

Skipper Cameron White’s Bushrangers beat Tasmania by 25 runs at the MCG on October 28 to take their win-loss record to 2-1.

Quiney made 53 in Victoria’s 6-348 in that match but coach Simon Helmot is confident Rogers is a ready-made replacement with an average of 99 and a strike-rate of 101.02 in one dayers this season.

“It’s fantastic news for Rob Quiney and we’re thrilled for him,” Helmot said on Monday.

“But the expectation is that someone within our group will stand up in his absence.

“We’re looking to atone against Western Australia after our loss at the WACA earlier this year.

“We’ve had two strong wins since that match but we want to maintain our winning streak.”

Victoria’s 12-man squad to play Western Australia at the MCG on Wednesday: Cameron White (capt), Chris Rogers, Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, David Hussey, Andrew McDonald, Peter Handscomb, John Hastings, Clint McKay, Darren Pattinson, Jayde Herrick, Alex Keath.
