Victorian allrounder John Hastings will undergo ankle surgery, meaning he will have to give up plans to play county cricket in England.
The 27-year-old will have an operation next week to remove bone spurs on his left ankle.
He was supposed to play for Sussex in a Twenty20 tournament.
“There’s never a good time to get it done, but it’s pretty disappointing,” Hastings said in a Cricket Victoria statement.
“I was in quite a bit of pain during the last three months of the season and it wasn’t allowing me to deliver my skillset like I would like.”
Hastings made his Test debut last November and enjoyed strong form throughout the summer for Victoria.
