WA skittled for 151 in one-dayer v NSW

Shaun Marsh failed to fire as NSW skittled Western Australia for 151 inside 43 overs in Wednesday’s one-day cup clash at the WACA Ground.

Marsh, captaining the side in the absence of Marcus North, was dismissed for just five in a Warriors’ batting effort that never made it off the ground.

Left-arm paceman Mitchell Starc, who was released from national duties, returned figures of 4-39 off 11.4 overs, while debutant quick Chris Tremain (2-32), Sean Abbott (2-48) and spinner Stephen O’Keefe (2-25 off 10) were also important for the Blues.

Bowling all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile top scored for the Warriors with an unbeaten 53 off 70 balls, but it was slim pickings thereafter.

WA’s collapse came as welcome relief to NSW, who were humiliated by an innings and 323 runs in last week’s Sheffield Shield clash at the WACA.

Abbott came close to snaring a hat-trick after dismissing Wes Robinson (17 off 55 balls) and Craig Simmons in consecutive balls.

But Luke Ronchi was able to fend away the hat-trick ball, before falling victim to Tremain down the leg side.

Coulter-Nile entered the fray with WA in all sorts of strife at 6-62 in the 21st over.

But the 24-year-old kept a cool head on the tricky batting deck, cracking six fours and a six to help lift last-placed WA to a defendable total.
