Former Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis has revealed he’s no longer in the running to become Australia’s new bowling coach.
Cricket Australia interviewed the ex-Test paceman as they continue their hunt for a replacement for Craig McDermott, who stepped down from the role in May.
But Waqar, who took 373 Test wickets in a 14-year career, said he’d been informed he was no longer in the running for the position.
“I was interested but it didn’t work out between me and Cricket Australia,” Waqar has been quoted on the ESPNcricinfo cricket website.
“They did interview me. I guess what I’m offering and what they’re looking at are two different things.
“I don’t know, I haven’t really asked them the details but that’s how it stands at the moment.
“It has just been in the last couple of days.”
Waqar, who is now based in Sydney, says he’s still interested in taking on some kind of coaching role within the Australian system.
