World madison champions Cameron Meyer and Leigh Howard have become the first Australian cyclists since 1988 to win the famous Berlin Six Day event.
Meyer and Howard started the final night of the track event in fifth place, but gained a lap and finished on 263 points.
Swiss pair Franco Marvulli and Silvan Dillier finished second on 254, with only 24 points separating the top four teams.
The win is a major boost for the two Australians ahead of the world track championships in Melbourne from April 4-8.
Meyer and Howard have won the last two world madison titles.
The last Australian to take out the Berlin Six Dayer was the legendary Danny Clark, who combined with Tony Doyle for the 1988 title.
