Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has sent injured midfielder Mario Goetze on holiday, with the teenage Germany star ruled out for up to eight weeks after suffering a groin injury.
The 19-year-old has a stress injury of the pubic bone and needs at least two weeks’ complete rest.
Before Dortmund’s German league match against Hoffenheim on Saturday, Klopp said he would send Goetze away for several weeks on vacation.
The teenager is set to have a busy summer for Germany, with Euro 2012 starting on June 8.
“He has to go and see the doctor again on Monday, but he won’t have many other opportunities to take some holiday,” Klopp told German Sky Sports.
Goetze has already said he plans on taking a two-week break before beginning rehabilitation training.
“Maybe I’ll even fly off to the sun,” he told German daily Bild.
“Maybe it’s a good thing when I really get away from football. It really got to me when I heard I would be out for eight weeks, but things will get better.”
As well as missing Dortmund’s Bundesliga campaign for the next couple of months, Goetze will sit out Germany’s friendly against France in Bremen on February 29.
Germany have drawn the Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark in Group B of Euro 2012 and Goetze is set to link up with the national squad in Munich on Sunday and Monday for promotional work ahead of the tournament.
