Marsh hits 57 as Scorchers post 6-162

Dumped Test batsman Shaun Marsh finally hit some form to help lift the Perth Scorchers to 6-162 in Sunday’s Twenty20 clash with Adelaide Strikers at the WACA Ground.

Marsh (57 off 45 balls) and Adam Voges (58 off 41 balls) combined for an 82-run stand, but the Scorchers failed to unleash many fireworks near the end as the Strikers’ bowling attack applied the breaks.

Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal finished with 1-22 from four overs, while Johan Botha (1-23) and paceman Kane Richardson (3-33) were also important.

Marsh entered the match in terrible form, having averaged just 10.2 in the Sheffield Shield and 17.7 in one-dayers this season.

But the 29-year-old looked in top notch once he found his rhythm against the Strikers, hitting three fours and three sixes to help the Scorchers get off to a solid start.

“It’s nice to get a win first up. It’s always nice to get a few runs,” Hughes said.

Scorchers coach Justin Langer said Shaun Marsh remained a chance to take on the Stars on Wednesday night.

“He’s just strained his hamstring a little bit. He’s going to have a scan in the morning,” Langer said.
