NSW dominate Aussie women’s cricket team

The NSW women’s cricket team are undefeated to start the domestic one-day and Twenty20 seasons and have been overwhelmingly rewarded with Australian selection.

It’s a Breakers-heavy Australian team that will face New Zealand in the Rose Bowl series starting at the SCG on Wednesday.

Nine of the 13-strong Stars’ squad are from the rampant Breakers, who completed a weekend T20 double over Tasmania at Blacktown International Sportspark on Sunday.

The women’s national cricket league will now take a short break for the four international matches.

NSW boast Alex Blackwell, Lisa Sthalekar, Leah Poulton, Sarah Coyte, Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, Erin Osborne, Sharon Millanta and Rachael Haynes in the selected squad.

The Breakers are three from three in the one-day league and six from six in the T20 competition.

NSW are a dominant force in women’s cricket – having won the past seven one-day titles and 14 out of 16 in total.

They’re yet to taste success in the T20, but have been runners-up for the three years the competition has existed.

A brilliant spell from fast bowler Millanta was the highlight of the Breakers’ six-wicket victory over Tasmania in their women’s T20 on Sunday.

Millanta tore through the Tasmanian top order, removing their top four batters.

She finished with the outstanding figures of 4-11 from her four overs, with her spell including a double wicket maiden.

Millanta’s player of the match effort well and truly put Tasmania on the back foot, and they were eventually bowled out for just 70 in the last over of their innings. The Breakers reached the victory target one ball into the 13th over for the loss of four wickets.

In the first rubber on Saturday, the Breakers won by eight wickets over Tasmania.

Player of the match, Alyssa Healy, hit an unbeaten half-century.

On Friday, NSW won the one-day match between the two sides.

After the SCG opener, Australia host New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on the 14th, 17th and 19th.
