Poore hints at England league switch

West Australia-born Wakefield forward Justin Poore says he would consider playing for England in next year’s rugby league World Cup.

Poore, 27, only signed a two-year deal for the Wildcats in October but he has already hinted at a switch in international allegiance.

His father is from Southampton and Poore played three State of Origin matches for NSW in 2009 but the Perth-born forward, who made 178 NRL appearances with St George Illawarra and the Parramatta Eels, is eyeing a World Cup spot.

“I’d consider it if there was an opportunity, I’ll put it like that,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“It depends on how I was feeling at the time I guess, you never say never.”

Meanwhile, Poore has credited coach Richard Agar with convincing him to move to the Super League.

“He was the reason I signed because he made me feel very comfortable,” said Poore.

“Richard watched some of my games last year and he was telling me things my coach there wasn’t even seeing.”

Wakefield were the league’s surprise package last season, winning their last seven matches in the regular season to finish in the final play-off berth.

They start next season’s campaign with a trip to Bradford Bulls on February 3.
