Sixers sign up allrounder Mendis

The Sydney Sixers have signed Sri Lankan allrounder Jeevan Mendis for a four-game spell in the Big Bash League.

The 29 year old, who is a member of Sri Lanka’s one-day and Twenty20 squads, will fly in to Sydney later this week and play in the season opener against Sydney Thunder on December 8.

“Jeevan has done really well over the last 18 months in the short forms of the game for Sri Lanka,” said head coach Trevor Bayliss.

“He debuted when I was over there as coach but has really cemented his position recently as a batting allrounder.

“He is great running between the wickets, bowls a little leg spin and is a solid fielder. He will be a great addition to our team.”
