New Zealand 14-year-old Lydia Ko has created history at the women’s NSW Open, becoming the youngest ever winner of a professional golf tournament.
Ko claims the honour from male Japanese Ryo Ishikawa, who won his first title aged 15 years and eight months, and the Gold Coast’s Amy Yang, who won the Australian Ladies Masters aged 16 and 192 days.
Ko, who shot three under on the final day, earned a four-stroke victory from Becky Morgan of Wales, playing a nerveless and bogeyless final round to finish 14-under for the tournament.
The Korea-born, New Zealand-raised phenom held her nerve as Lindsey Wright made a blistering start on the front nine, picking up five birdies between holes two and nine.
Despite applying the pressure, it was Wright who cracked in the end – bogeying the 16th and 17th holes while Ko sank a birdie on 15.
