Kaymer wins US Open golf by 8 shots

Germany’s Martin Kaymer has claimed his second golf major championship title, blitzing the field for an eight-stroke victory in the US Open.

Former world No.1 Kaymer, the 2010 US PGA Championship winner, fired a one-under 69 final round to finish at nine-under-par 271 – the second-lowest total in US Open history – at Pinehurst No.2 in North Carolina.

He won from double heart transplant recipient Erik Compton and fellow American Rickie Fowler who tied second.

Australia’s Jason Day (68) made a late run to finish one-over par and tied for fourth, 10 shots behind Kaymer, while countryman and world No.1 Adam Scott (69) claimed his best US Open result when tied ninth at two-over.
