Phoenix Open Golf Tips, Odds and Betting – 2021 TPC Scottsdale

The PGA Tour heads south to Arizona on Friday (AEDT) as the time-honoured Phoenix Open tees off from TPC Scottsdale.

Nicknamed “The People’s Open” due to the rowdy 16th hole, this year’s Open will no doubt feel a little different with only a limited number of fans in attendance.

As far as betting goes, Jon Rahm once again heads the market coming off another massive weekend at Torrey Pines, followed by the usual suspects in Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy.

Defending champ Webb Simpson is back for another year, while Australia’s hopes seemingly hinge on a return to form from Jason Day.

The Phoenix Open is always one of the most highly anticipated events on the PGA calendar, and there is no shortage of value to be found in our preview below!

Phoenix Open Open Best Bet

Jon Rahm at $7.00

Rahm is the consensus pick heading in and it’s not hard to see why.

The Spaniard hasn’t finished outside the Top 10 in his last four events after finishing T7 for the third tournament in a row last week at the Farmers.

Meanwhile, his form at TPC Scottsdale is just as dazzling: five consecutive finishes inside the Top 15.

Daniel Berger at $21.00

Berger hasn’t missed the cut since last July and he continues to flirt with a win in just about every tournament he enters.

Not to be outdone, the 27-year-old has enjoyed this weekend in recent years finishing T9 last year behind Webb Simpson and T7 back in 2017.

All up, the American had finished Top 15 in four of his six appearances at TPC Scottsdale, while the fact he’s well-rested coming off the Aloha Swing also bodes well for his chances.

Phoenix Open Open Best Value

Hideki Matsuyama at $23.00

Very few guys have more experience at this event than the two-time champ.

While he hasn’t won in some time, Matsuyama has been playing to some nice results of late to suggest he’s capable of surprising at odds.

I’m willing to forgive last week’s T53 at the Farmers and instead focus on his T13 at the Masters and his T19 at the Sony Open.

If he can put his putting issues aside, he’s right in this.

Gary Woodland at $56.00

I can’t believe the odds we’re getting here for Woodland, even after last week’s T48 at Torrey Pines.

His opening round 66 was a thing of beauty before some trouble off the tee ultimately got in the way on the final few days.

Even so, the good news is Woodland says he’s feeling as healthy as ever, and despite the accuracy issues, he’s still finding tremendous distance off the tee.

We already know this course suits his game after winning back in 2018, and I fully expect to see more improvement from the big man as the season progresses.

Phoenix Open Open Best Roughies

Byeong Hun An at $91.00

Pretty crazy odds here for a guy that just finished T8 at The American Express two weeks ago and actually ranked second on the leaderboard at the end of day one.

Okay, I get it, his form around that tournament looks pretty ugly on paper, but he’s typically played some of his best golf at TPC Scottsdale.

The Korean is four-from-four at this event finishing Top 25 on each occasion. After a T9 last year, he certainly won’t be short on motivation.

Patton Kizzire at $101.00

I tipped Kizzire two weeks ago at the Sony Open where he went on to finish T7.

Last week’s efforts at Torrey Pines weren’t quite up to scratch, but he does have plenty of experience at TPC Scottsdale, albeit to mixed results.

Still, the numbers don’t lie: 22nd in Strokes Gained: Putting and 43rd on Tour in greens in regulation.
