The many near misses of Jason Day

SUNDAY SADNESS – JASON DAY’S PLETHORA OF NEAR MISSES AT THE MAJORS

2011 Masters – Day birdies his final two holes to join Adam Scott in the clubhouse lead only to see Charl Schwartzel birdie the last four in a row to snatch the win.

2011 US Open – Day produces a US Open record 45 holes straight without a bogey to finish his tournament but is still second place, eight shots behind Rory McIlroy.

2013 Masters – Day stands on the 16th tee Sunday with a two shot lead but goes bogey, bogey the next two holes to open the door for countryman Adam Scott to become the first Australian to win a green jacket.

2013 US Open – Day joins the lead through 10 holes on Sunday only to bogey the next, and 14 and 18 to finish tied second to Justin Rose at Merion.

2013 PGA Championship – A tear of seven birdies in a ten-hole stretch sets Day up for a late charge but he pars an easy par-five and finishes with three straight bogeys to fade to eighth.

2014 US Open – Day finishes fourth but was never in the hunt as Martin Kaymer obliterated the field.

2014 PGA Championship – Day leads the field in greens in regulation but can’t buy a putt. Shares the lead early Sunday but misses a handful of short birdie putts, 11 from inside 10 feet in the tournament, to fade to 15th.

2015 US Open – Day climbs off the canvas after going down in round two with a vertigo attack and responds to get a share of the lead into Sunday. But he can’t get through the dizziness well enough in the final round and ends up ninth.

2015 British Open – Day once again has a share of the lead headed to Sunday. Needing just one birdie in his last 12 holes to make a playoff, Day cannot find one and leaves his effort on the 18th short to miss by one as Zach Johnson claims his second major.
