She’s a golf nerd with too much energy but Karrie Webb likes Victorian Stacey Keating’s game.
The former world No.1 teed off alongside Keating in Thursday’s opening round of the Australian Ladies Masters at Royal Pines.
And the day ended as a victory for Keating, who shot a one-under 72 to finish two shots ahead of eight-time Ladies Masters champion Webb following the first round.
It’s a good start for Australia’s third-highest ranked player and Webb isn’t surprised to see world No.114 Keating doing well.
“I expect Stacey to be a player that will around for a long time,” Webb said on Thursday.
“She will be someone who is always improving. She is a golf nerd, she loves asking questions and learning, she absorbs as much information as she can to try and help her game.”
Webb has hosted Keating in her Florida home since the 27-year-old turned pro in 2010 and says the youngster’s enthusiasm for the game can prove infectious.
“She is just a great personality,” Webb said.
“I’ve had her stay at my house a few times … always a lot of fun.
“She’s got a lot of energy, I wish I had a little bit more of her energy.”
