Top amateur Holman turns golf pro

Australia’s No.2 amateur golfer Nathan Holman is turning professional and has boldly declared he’s ready to win at his first start.

The 22-year-old Victorian will fly to Italy on Thursday to contest the first stage of European tour qualifying school at Bogogno Golf Club from September 24-27.

He’ll play his first tournament proper as a professional at the WA PGA Championship in Kalgoorlie from October 3-6.

Holman, ranked 25th in the world among amateurs, has already shown he can compete successfully among the pros.

In January this year, he shot 66 to lead the Victorian PGA Championship after the first round and finished in the top 20.

In the following weeks, he was tied fifth and tied second respectively at the Heritage Classic and Victorian Open.

“I feel like it’s going to be quite a comfortable change because of the opportunities that I’ve had to play in professional events,” said Holman.

“It’s business as usual. I’m going to play to win.

“With the results I had (in the) last year, I don’t think that’s going to be beyond me.

“I’m feeling pretty confident and I’m ready to step out and win in my first week as a professional.”
