The PGA Tour heads south to Texas this week for the time-honoured Texas Open from TPC San Antonio.
The field is a little short on talent with the Masters only a week away, but there’s plenty of value to be found on defending champion Jordan Spieth, as well as the in-form Rory McIlroy atop the market.
As is often the case in Texas, windy conditions are expected right throughout the weekend, making this a tough golf tournament for both the players and bettors.
The Texas Open is often a nice form reference a week out from Augusta, so be sure to find out who we’re tipping below!
Texas Open Best Bet
Chris Kirk @ $34.00
Ball striking will be paramount this weekend with six-inch rough surrounding most of the fairways, so it’s worth backing a guy that ranks highly in the category. Kirk’s recent form also makes for easy reading as well. He finished Top 10 at both the Honda Classic and Arnold Palmer Invitational before missing the cut at THE PLAYERS. Rested since and has also finished Top 10 on three occasions at TPC San Antonio.
Texas Open Best Value
Gary Woodland @ $34.00
Woodland can be tough to trust, but he’s been playing some good golf of late to suggest he’s in with a shout this weekend. Finished in a tie for fifth at The Honda and Arnie Palmer and bounced back from missing the cut at THE PLAYERS with a T21 at the Valspar. Came home strongly in the final round to finish T6 at this tournament last year.
Texas Open Best Roughie
Rasmus Hojgaard @ $71.00
Earned a spot in the field on the back of a T6 at Corales last week. Carded three straight rounds of 67 and also ranked T11 in Greens in Regulation. Little experience playing in the United States but looks a nice value play based on recent form.
