The PGA Tour heads south to Memphis on Friday as TPC Southwind plays host to the time-honoured WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
With names likes Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and Hideki Matsuyama claiming the last three trophies, it’s fair to say this event is almost always won by the most complete all-around player.
Unfortunately, golf bettors have a real tough task on their hands with a wide-open field of names to choose from.

WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational Best Bet
Patrick Cantlay at $21.00
It would come as no surprise to watch Cantlay hoist the trophy on Monday morning.
Despite failing to defend his title at the Memorial, he’s been making real headway towards a third Tour win with five Top 20 finishes in six starts since the start of the year.
The 28-year-old ranks second in the PGA’s all-around ranking, and after tipping him to win the Workday Charity Open a few weeks ago, I’m willing to give him another shot.
WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational Best Value
Webb Simpson at $21.00
The current price on offer for Simpson is great value considering he’s playing with a chip on his shoulder.
The 34-year-old finished runner-up last year behind Brooks Koepka, so you just know he’s going to use that to his advantage over the weekend.
Stats wise, Simpson also checks out in every area, so be sure to include him in one way or another in your betting.
WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational Best Roughie
Daniel Berger at $29.00
It’s unreal to find Daniel Berger at $29.00 in the market.
He’s won twice before on this course in back-to-back succession in 2016 and 2017, while it’s easy to forget he resumed his season with at Colonial in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Even after missing the cut at the Memorial, you’d be foolish not to bet on him, simple as that.
WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational Best of the Rest
Jon Rahm at $10.00
It is no surprise to find the new World No. 1 as the favourite after rattling off a brilliant opening three rounds to win the Memorial Tournament a fortnight ago. Rahm was well overdue for a win, and he gets an opportunity to go one better here on a course he finished outright seventh at last year. TPC Southwind calls for a bit of everything, something Rahm has in abundance. He currently ranks Top 20 in greens in regulation, birdie average and scoring average.
Rory McIlroy at $12.00
It’s unbelievable to think McIlroy hasn’t missed the cut now in over a year. The 2020 Players Championship winner has turned in some up and down performances since the restart, but he’s well rested coming off a T32 at Muirfield a fortnight ago. A lack of accuracy off the tee has let him down at times this year, but a T4 at this event last year puts him among the top contenders.
Justin Thomas at $12.00
Probably over the odds considering the form he’s in. Thomas has finished Top 20 in four of his five appearances since the restart and almost always brings his absolute best to WGC events. The 27-year-old has won and finished Top 15 in his last 10 WGC appearances, and if he can find a little more accuracy with the driver, he should be right in this.
Bryson DeChambeau at $13.00
How can you not be a fan of what this man is doing? The undisputed king of the long-bomb missed the cut at the Memorial in his last start after finishing Top 10 in his previous four appearances post restart. Despite the yardage he gains, he could stand to be a little more accurate off the tee, but DeChambeau remains the complete package ahead of his fourth look at TPC Southwind.
Xander Schauffele at $21.00
Very hard to fault Schauffele since the restart. In five starts, he’s finished inside the Top 20 four times and is well-rested coming off a T13 at the Memorial. Just like Justin Thomas, the American is another player that performs exceptionally well at WGC events. He owns a win and five Top 20’s in his last 11 appearances, making this wide-open field even more tricky to navigate.
Tyrell Hatton at $23.00
If Hatton wins this event it will be because of his putting. The Englishman ranks first on Tour in birdie average and third ins coring average, while his play elsewhere isn’t too shabby either. The 28-year-old ranks 10th in greens in regulation, so really, it’s only a matter of time before he claims his second win on Tour.
Brooks Koepka at $29.00
The defending champ is always a threat no matter where he does, but it is a little difficult to trust Koepka based on his recent form. Two missed cuts and only one Top 10 finish since the restart says it all.
Collin Morikawa at $29.00
No knock on Morikawa after winning the Workday Charity Open to start the month. He gets his first look at TPC Southwind, but all the stats suggest he should handle it just fine.
Jason Day at $34.00
Day’s back is still playing up, but it seemingly hasn’t bothered him too much judging by his T7 and T4 in back-to-back starts at Muirfield earlier in the month. He’s made the cut in both appearances on this course, so fingers crossed he can make it through the weekend.
Tony Finau at $34.00
Do not sleep on Tony Finau. Considering he continues to find new ways to blow leads, nobody would blame you if you felt a little apprehensive about his chances, but the stats do suggest the American is in for another big weekend. Finau currently ranks eighth in birdie average, 21st in scoring average and 27th in greens in regulation. A little more accuracy off the tee wouldn’t go astray, but the current price looks a touch over.
