In the news:
The Australian Turf Club and the Western Sydney Wanderers have formed an official partnership to help promote each other on race days and game days.
To launch the partnership all Wanderers members and ticket holders for Saturday’s sell-out A-League match against Melbourne Victory will get free admission to the Rosehill race meeting in the afternoon.
ATC chief executive Darren Pearce and Wanderers executive chairman Lyall Gorman made the announcement on Monday at Rosehill, in the heart of western Sydney.
Under the partnership both clubs will aim to be among the business leaders of the region and work together to grow spectator and sponsorship synergies.
Both clubs will also help to increase the profile of the sporting stars of both racing and football, two of the most popular and highest participation spectator sports.
The Wanderers will also hold major events for the Sydney sporting and business communities at Rosehill, including a 500-plus luncheon in early 2014.
Pearce said the track in the heart of Sydney’s west was crucial to the success of the ATC and there was an opportunity for both clubs to help each other.
“The business networking opportunities between both of our corporate partners alone is good reason for us to join forces,” Pearce said.
“Western Sydney is very passionate about not only sport in general, but also horse racing, and it is home to the richest and most sought-after two year old race in the world, the Golden Slipper.”
Gorman said the partnership was another example of the Wanderers connecting with the western Sydney community.
“The Wanderers are always looking for opportunities that will either grow the club or provide benefits to our members and our partnership with the Australian Turf Club ticks both of these boxes,” he said.
