Glen Boss had no time to waste as he left his mark on Sandown Guineas day.
The leading jockey posted a win in the opening event, knowing he had to make a dash for the airport after the third race at the spring carnival-ending meeting at Caulfield.
Boss will be one of several Australian jockeys riding in Sunday’s Singapore Gold Cup.
He navigated Golconda to her first victory in the Desiree Gill Tribute Stakes for two-year-olds after a masterly ride.
Boss told connections Golconda, the $2.80 favourite, handled herself well for just her second race start and was “busting to go”.
Boss had Golconda just behind the leader at the turn before she drew clear win by three lengths from All Sewn Up ($11) with Heavy ($31) finishing 1-1/4 lengths away third.
Trainer Robbie Lang said Golconda should have finished second in her only other start when fourth at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day to Oakleigh Girl but she had given away too much start.
Now he has to decide whether to brave the Queensland heat to run Goldconda in the Magic Millions Classic in early January or keep her in Melbourne for the Blue Diamond Stakes.
The TAB expects to raise $30,000 from profits on the race which will go to a fund set up for the family of Queensland jockey Desiree Gill who died in a race fall on the Sunshine Coast last weekend.
