2013 Epsom Handicap results: Boban flies home to beat Streama

The Chris Waller-trained Boban made a stunning graduation to Group One racing with a fast-finishing Epsom Handicap win at Randwick on Saturday.

Boban entered the straight with only two runners behind him after he found interference at the 600m.

And in spite of jockey Glyn Schofield’s optimism, the four-year-old’s chances appeared forlorn as the stablemates Streama and Toydini prepared to fight out the finish.

However trainer Guy Walter’s hopes of a feature-race quinella were dashed as Boban ($6) unwound to win by a nose from the favourite Streama ($4.60).

Toydini ($6) was a long head away third.

“I thought I was going to win but on the line I wasn’t really sure and I was happy to see the number go up,” Schofield said.

Boban gave Waller his first Epsom win after placings with Rangirangdoo and Red Tracer.

He said he wasn’t sure if Boban had arrived in time.

“It was a tough couple of minutes but it was worth the wait,” he said.
