The education of talented colt Koroibete will continue at Rosehill on the same day his Gerald Ryan-trained stablemate Hot Snitzel tries to redeem himself at Caulfield.
Named for the Wests Tigers winger Marika Koroibete and owned by his teammates Chris Lawrence and Robbie Farah, the three-year-old has won one race and been placed at his two but his record could be so much better if he jumped away cleanly.
His barrier behaviour has also caused him to be scratched from one race.
He is entered for a 1350m event on Saturday while multiple stakes winner Hot Snitzel will contest either the Sandown Stakes (1400m) or the Kevin Heffernan (1200m) at Caulfield.
Hot Snitzel finished 10th in the Group Two Yellowglen Stakes at Flemington last Saturday week, a result his trainer admitted was below expectations.
“He was disappointing,” Ryan said.
“But he is bright and well in himself. His coat looks good so we will press on.
“He will more than likely run in the 1200 metre race and Nash Rawiller has been booked to ride so hopefully he can turn it around.”
The trainer admits Koroibete is still a work in progress.
“I’ve been in Melbourne and I hadn’t seen him for a week and I was very pleased with how he looked,” Ryan said.
“He looks stronger. It’s just a matter of teaching him to race properly and to get out of the barriers cleanly.
“It will be interesting to see how he goes against older horses.”
Ryan also has two-year-olds Aesop and Taraneem entered for Rosehill.
“Aesop is scheduled to trial on Tuesday and I’ll make a decision in the morning whether he does that or just has a gallop,” Ryan said.
Ryan’s Melbourne spring carnival ended on a high with a Listed win by Dothraki at Flemington on Saturday.
It was Dothraki’s first win since December last year. He was Group-placed twice as an autumn two-year-old but ran last in the Golden Slipper.
