Spirit Of Boom ($7.5) is racing in the best form of his career as he bids to complete the Doomben 10,000-Stradbroke double. The stallion has not finished further back than second at his past six starts, five of them at group 1 level. He is drawn perfectly in barrier six, but he must deal with a hefty impost of 58kg.
Knoydart ($11) drops 5.5kg on his closing fifth in the 10,000. He has yet to win beyond 1300m but has been consistent in top company all through autumn and has Darley’s No.1 rider Kerrin McEvoy on board.
Rebel Dane ($8) turned in a good effort when fourth in the Doomben 10,000 and is better suited at the bigger Eagle Farm track, but his chances took a blow at the barrier draw when he came up with gate 22.
Srikandi ($5) is also drawn wide but the brilliant Victorian filly has the early speed to cross over and lead with her light weight. Fellow three-year-old Hucklebuck ($5) is drawn perfectly in one and also will relish carrying only 51kg.

Tip: This years edition of the race looks wide open with the early fancies all drawing wide. I think it’s a race which you can back two or three horses and still make a decent profit. In the market i like Knoydart or has been perhaps the best backed runner which has seen his odds shorten from $11 to $8, his run in the Doomben 10,00 was very good i thought and he will be hard to beat. River Lad at the big odds looks great value whilst Velrosso with the light weight has to also be included.
