Melbourne Racing Club has stated that the 2017 Caulfield Cup will remain at Handicap conditions but they have not ruled out looking at all options moving forward to enhance the races stature.
The MRC however wants Racing Victoria to look at increasing the prize money on offer for the Caulfield Cup with hoping to increase the purse from $3million to $4million.
The funds would be taken from Racing Victoria which is said to have over $100m in the organisations bank account.
Melbourne Racing Club also wish to increase the prize money on offer for the Caulfield Guineas as well as the Caulfield Stakes with the latter primarily to ensure they get Winx to the race as a lead up to her third Cox Plate.
The club is also trying to remove the Melbourne Cup penalty given to the winner of the Caulfield Cup in hopes to attract more International horses to use it as a lead up to the Cup.
