A look at 2023 Chipping Norton Stakes day

The Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) has been won by most of the greats with Chris Waller dominating saluting in 10 of the last 12 years.

Australia’s current WFA champ Anamoe ($1.65 favourite in early all-in markets) tries to maintain his status with another major to add to his previous seven.

He could face some of his vanquished from the Apollo Stakes including Hinged ($10), Fangirl ($7.50) and Mo’Unga ($10).

The other Group 1, the Surround Stakes over 1400m for the 3yo fillies, brings together most of the best of their generation led by In Secret ($2.20).

She may get to match up this time against Zougotcha ($4.50) after she missed the Light Fingers with an elevated temperature. Other major race winners who are nominated include Slipper winner Fireburn ($13), Brisbane Carnival success Sheeza Belter ($13) and Thousand Guineas winner Madame Pommery ($15).

We continue the Golden Slipper exempt races with the babies getting their chance to make it into the $5m race at Rosehill.

The Skyline Stakes (1200m) for the colts and geldings sees nominations extended. A promising maiden Shinzo opens early elect at $3.50 in what could well be an open race.

Over to the fillies and at first glance the Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) is a stronger race with form coming from everywhere. Magic Millions winner Skirt The Law ($3.50) tries to remain unbeaten and could take on Victorian form with Extreme Threat ($15) and Sensical ($15) heading north. Then the Inglis Millennium placegetters Blanc De Blanc ($3.50) and Kundalini ($6) are also engaged.

Other features on the day are the Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) for mares where Espiona ($4.50) and Icebath ($4) will have admirers.

Also the Liverpool City Cup (1300m) gives some promising horses like Think About It ($8) and Norwegian Bliss ($15) a possible chance to get a feature win.
