Australian Oaks at Randwick Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 8/4/2023

The Australian Oaks is one of four outstanding Group 1 contests slated for Day 2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Kiwi raiders have a great record in the Australian Oaks and a couple have accepted into this year’s field, but it is leading local Pavitra that has opened our favourite in Australian Oaks betting, and she has already attracted plenty of admirers.

You can find Pavitra, and my remaining 2023 Australian Oaks Tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 5 Units straight out #2 Pavitra
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below

Australian Oaks – Winner

She was well beaten by Prowess in the Vinery Stud Stakes a fortnight ago, but that galloper hasn’t accepted into the Australian Oaks field, and I thought that Pavitra was clearly the one to beat.

Pavitra has been a great horse for Richard & Will Freedman since debuting and announced herself to the greater Australian racing community during a spring preparation that heralded consecutive second-placings in the Wakeful and VRC Oaks.

Her second-up performance and win in the Kembla Grange Classic this time in was utterly ruthless, she steps out this week in peak order and should relish getting out to a mile and a half.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Pavitra

Australian Oaks – 2nd

Arts stormed into Australian Oaks contention with an incredible performance in last weekend’s Adrian Knox Stakes.

The Xtravagant filly had only had two starts prior to that appearance, winning on debut at Kembla Grange before finishing at the tail of the field in the Kembla Grange Classic.

She clearly has plenty of raw talent, and with further improvement, I think that she can be in the finish of the Australian Oaks as well.

Suggested Bet: No. 5 Arts

Australian Oaks – 3rd

New Zealand Oaks winner Pennyweka will look to make it two in a row when she takes her place in the Australian Oaks field, but I do think that this is a tougher task.

The daughter of Satono Aladdin has continued to improve with each start back this time and as the bar has been raised, filling the minors in Group 2 company before striding clear to win the NZ Oaks by more than three lengths.

She is three weeks between starts, but clearly has the talent, and she can fight her way into our Australian Oaks trifecta.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Pennyweka

Australian Oaks – 4th

She is clearly one of the most talented fillies in the Australian Oaks field, and I think that alone will see Fireburn into the finish on Saturday.

Fireburn won both the Golden Slipper and the Inglis Sires’ last autumn before doing within a head of pulling off the Triple Crown when second in the Champagne Stakes.

She didn’t rescale those heights in the spring, but she can continued to improve with each start back this time, and I thought that she was quite tough through the line when third in the Vinery Stud Stakes last time.

There is a query over weather or not she’ll see out the trip this week, but she’ll certainly relish a rain-affected track!

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Fireburn
