The National Broodmare Sale obtained another big-ticket item on Wednesday when Away Game was confirmed as an entry for the late-May offering.
Magic Millions announced that the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained filly would be sold on the Gold Coast after contesting the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide on May 7.
Away Game joins four-time Group 1 winner Tofane as the banner lots at this year’s sale, which will run from May 24 to 26.
The four-year-old daughter of Snitzel has raced 22 times for five wins, the biggest victory coming in the $2.5m Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) in 2020.
She is yet to win at Group 1 level but was runner-up to Farnan in the Golden Slipper (1200m) two years ago and two starts ago beat home all bar unbeaten stablemate Marabi in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m).
“She has been the most special filly and it will be bitter-sweet to be selling her in a couple of months,” part-owner Hannah Mathieson said of the $3.6m-earner, who is out of the Elusive Quality mare Elusive Wonder.
“She’s a gorgeous filly physically, she has a great active family and she’s by a top sire – there’s a lot to like about her.
“She has a very active pedigree. Her dam was Stakes-placed, she’s a sister to a Stakes winner and her sisters and half-sisters are showing they’re good producers so early at stud.”
Away Game will be offered as part of the Newgate/Killora Consignment and Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said it was a privilege to have the chance to offer a winner of the Australian Champion 2YO Filly Award.
“It is so rare to have the opportunity to offer a champion two-year-old filly, Away Game has all the attributes to attract global attention,” Bowditch said.
“She’s been an incredible ambassador for the company and Magic Millions Racing Women.
“She’s danced every dance and we can’t wait to see her race in the Sangster before she comes back to the Gold Coast for the next chapter of her career.”
