Bargain buy lands memorable 2022 Country Mile Series Final win

Symon Wilde and a big team of the Warrnambool trainer’s owners celebrated a memorable victory in the $250,000 Country Mile Series Final at Flemington on All-Star Mile Day.

Wilde prepared Glassey Miss to defeat Gracias Amigo and Intellective in an all-roughie dominated finish to the 1600-metre event.

An $18,000 buy at the Inglis VOBIS Gold Sale, Glassey Miss picked up $137,500 for the win that Wilde said would live long in the memory of connections.

“There’s a group of 30 out here on the lawn and they’re all pretty excited,” Wilde said.

“She was a very cheap horse and it’s worked out very well for her. I think I’ve got them hooked for life now.

“It’s one of those stories, you get a few of your mates into them and you get a bit of luck, they’re going to remember this day forever.”

The five-year-old daughter of Glass Harmonium made the most of an economical ride from popular country jockey Harry Coffey to score the seventh win of her 24-start career.

After surging to the front inside the final 200m, Glassey Miss ($17) was forced to withstand a late charge from Gracias Amigo ($20), who powered home from the rear to be beaten half-a-length. Intellective ($26) was the same margin away third.

“Because she is so versatile, if a slight run comes she can ping through it and I was able to do that,” Coffey said.

“I took off after the leaders a little bit earlier than I would have liked. I would have liked to have hidden her away for a little bit longer, but I was going that well I just had to get into the race and the rest is history.”
