Bel Sonic could line-up in Winter Dash

Trainer Jason Warren will wait until later in the week before deciding on the immediate plans for last-start winner Bel Sonic.

Bel Sonic is among nominations for an 1100 handicap at Flemington on Saturday and also the Winter Dash (1200m) at Randwick, with Warren yet to decide whether the sprinter will run this weekend.

If he does, Warren said the four-year-old gelding would most likely remain in Melbourne.

“I just want to gallop the horse on Wednesday morning and then decide,” Warren said.

Bel Sonic was a luckless runner in a straight-track race at Flemington three starts ago before finishing fifth in the Listed Straight Six at the same course at his next start.

At his most recent start Bel Sonic won a benchmark 82 over 1250m at Morphettville on June 1 by a length.

“He’s going well,” Warren said.

“He won well over in Adelaide last start and the form has been backed up by the runner-up (Debt Collector) coming over and finishing second in a race at Flemington at his next start.”

Bel Sonic is one of 26 nominations for the Flemington race while the Winter Dash has 15 entries headlined by another Victorian sprinter, the Mick Bell-trained Jungle Edge.

Jungle Edge won an open handicap on a soft track at Sandown on Saturday, his 16th win from 69 starts.

All 16 victories have been on rain-affected tracks with Randwick heavy on Monday and Sydney’s wet weather set to continue.

The Clare Cunningham-trained Cradle Mountain is nominated for the Winter Dash and also the Group Three Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Cradle Mountain has won six of his 11 starts with five of those victories on good rated tracks and one on soft.
