Trainer Jason Warren is targeting major Group 1 races in Sydney and Brisbane for Benedetta, who won The Goodwood in Adelaide last autumn.
Benedetta will first contest the All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 19. Despite strong competition, Warren believes the distance and track conditions will suit her, noting, “She settles well.” Her last start was a solid second in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley, though the track wasn’t ideal.
After Sydney, Benedetta will likely trial before heading to the Brisbane Winter Carnival, where the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and Kingsford Smith Cup are on the agenda. Warren is also eyeing the Stradbroke Handicap and potentially the Tatt’s Tiara.
Rated a $26 chance for the All Aged, Benedetta will bypass Perth’s The Quokka due to the logistics of a long journey. Warren also dismissed Royal Ascot’s offer, favouring the local riches.
