In-form Blazejowski will be out to continue an unbeaten preparation at Flemington in a race that will be telling as to whether he presses on to the Winter Championship Series Final.
Blazejowski made it three wins from as many starts this campaign when he graduated to open company with victory over 1400m in a heat of the Winter Championship at Flemington on June 8.
He stays at 1400m in Saturday’s seventh heat of the series at Flemington with his performance to determine whether he steps up to 1600m for the first time in the Listed Winter Championship Series Final on July 6 at the same track.
“Saturday might be a really good gauge,” trainer Greg Eurell said.
“On face value he was probably just starting to get caught on the line the other day (by Federal), although they beat the rest of the field pretty comfortably.
“I’m glad there’s another run over 1400 just to see how he handles it again before we do tackle the mile. Saturday will probably be pivotal in whether we do or whether we don’t, and if we don’t there’s still plenty of 1400-metre races out there and we can target those.”
Eurell says Blazejowski has gone to another level this campaign and continues to do everything right leading in to Saturday.
Blazejowski resumed with a win at Sale over 1105m before a strong victory over 1300m in a benchmark-84 race at Sandown on May 26.
Eurell was thrilled with the gelding’s effort to win again last start at Flemington when up in grade, saying the four-year-old had to cover a bit of extra ground from a wide draw and also probably hit the front too soon in the straight.
He goes up 3kg to 57kg in Saturday’s race, which has 23 nominations, and Jye McNeil retains the ride.
“He hasn’t missed a beat,” Eurell said.
“He’s in great shape. He is just having one of those preps in that everything has gone smoothly.
“We just hope we get a good draw and it will be interesting to see what he can do again.”
The feature on the program is the Listed A R Creswick Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds which has attracted 18 nominations.
Dual stakes winner Sesar heads the weights in the set weights plus penalties race with 60kg.
