Blue Diamond Stakes Day is always a top notch race day at Caulfield and this year is no different.
Every race on the card is black type and we have three Group 1s to look forward to including the Blue Diamond Stakes, Oakleigh Plate and Futurity Stakes.

Race 1 – 12:40pm – Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m)
Generation is putting together a really nice racing resume with four wins from six career starts now.
The son of Snitzel could not have been much more impressive when scoring by over a length in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes first up.
He’s won two from two at this track and distance and again looks well placed in this year’s Zeditave Stakes.
Race 2 – 1:15pm – Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m)
Kahma Lass has been placed in five of nine career starts and is a Listed winner at this track and distance.
The four year old mare was beaten under three lengths behind Probabeel in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes first up and the step up to 1400m of the Mannerism Stakes here suits.
Race 3 – 1:50pm – Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m)
El Patroness is already a black type winner when she took out the Listed Super Impose Stakes at Flemington during the spring.
Her first performance at Caulfield was full of merit and she will only improve now she gets out in distance to 1800m in the Autumn Classic.
Race 4 – 2:25pm – Group 2 Armanasco Stakes (1400m)
Yearning has accepted in Sydney as well but if she races here instead, she is every chance in my opinion.
The Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner has had two nice trials leading into this first up assignment in the Angus Armanasco Stakes and while she will only improve on what ever she produced here, she represents good value at double figures.
Race 5 – 3:05pm – Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m)
Cascadian is fast becoming the punters worst enemy finishing in the top five in his last eight in a row without winning.
You can not knock his effort and he has been racing very well at the top level for most of his career.
His first up effort behind Tofane in the Group 1 C.F Orr Stakes was excellent and despite the sharp step up in distance, he looks well placed in this year’s Peter Young Stakes.
Race 6 – 3:45pm – Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m)
This is a fascinating edition of the Group 1 Futurity Stakes with four or five genuine winning chances.
Tofane is the best 1400m horse in the country in my opinion despite continually being underrated by the punters.
She makes her own luck right on the speed which helped her win first up in the C.F Orr at this track and distance.
It was not the only reason she won but it certainly helps here at Caulfield.
Mo’unga has not set the world on fire in two trials leading in but his first up record speaks for itself.
He won the Group 1 Winx Stakes last prep when he beat Verry Elleegant and although Tofane is going to be very tough to beat, he has plenty of class and represents value.
Race 7 – 4:25pm – Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m)
Damian Lane was very kind on the Mick Price and Michael Kent jnr colt Jaquinot in the Blue Diamond Prelude after he ran into trouble throughout the run.
Nothing went to plan for him on that day when he was forced to go to the inside when turning for home and he ran into backsides late in the piece.
He’ll take improvement out of the run and is the horse to beat.
Six of the past 11 Blue Diamond Stakes favourites have won the race.
Race 8 – 5:05pm – Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m)
The undefeated Marabi makes her Group 1 debut in the Oakleigh Plate and while she is the deserving favourite I’m happy to take her on.
Wild Ruler went from strength to strength last prep resulting in his maiden Group 1 win Moir Stakes and while I don’t think he is up to the top line sprinters in this country, he is well placed in this particular race.
Away Game has drawn to get a lovely run in transit in this race and brings in residual fitness from QLD into this event.
Minhaaj is a very progressive and consistent race mare and represents good value in this race as well.
Race 9 – 5:40pm – Listed Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m)
This is a very tough way to end the day with an open field of gallopers.
Desert Icon has been racing well throughout this prep and he was an impressive 2.75 length win at this track last time out.
A repeat of that would see him go close here.
