Blushing Tycoon set to rebound at The Valley races

Blushing Tycoon has been a cause of frustration for his trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young.

Showing promise from his two-year-old year, Blushing Tycoon has registered only one win from 19 starts but the Busuttin-Young team hope that will be rectified on Saturday when Blushing Tycoon runs in the Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Handicap (2040m) at Moonee Valley.

After finishing third in the Group 3 South Australian Sires’ Produce Stakes at Morphettville at his third race start, Blushing Tycoon came back to Flemington to win over 1400m which gave Busuttin and Young the encouragement to send the then two-year-old to Brisbane for the Group 1 J J Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm, finishing seventh to Converge.

Blushing Tycoon’s three-year-old year was a mixture of good and bad and indifferent with a best finish being a second to Spirit Of Gaylard at Listed level during Melbourne Cup week.

In four runs as a four-year-old, Busuttin and Young have kept Blushing Tycoon in restricted company looking to extract a win and after successive placings at Sandown and Moonee Valley, Young said the gelding was a shade disappointing at Flemington last start when fifth to Hasseltoff over 1800m.

Young said they had changed up Blushing Tycoon’s work since that performance in a bid to strike winning form again.

“He was a little bit deep in the run last time, but he had cover and didn’t really finish it off,” Young said.

“So, we’ve mixed his work up a little bit after maybe he had peaked a little bit on his run.

“There’s not a lot for him going forward, so we thought we might give him another run, given him a couple of sharp sprints and he seems to have been working up OK.”

Young said Blushing Tycoon had been a cause of frustration for the stable as they know the ability is there and are hoping a win may spark a few more.

“He has been a little disappointing at the moment,” Young said.

“He was so good first-up, second-up and third-up but it might have been one of those flat runs last time that they can have, so hopefully he can bounce back.”
