Chris Waller has a happy knack of finding the right three-year-old filly for the Group 1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville.
He has produced Egg Tart and Toffee Tongue in recent years and may have Brookspire represent the stable in next week’s 2000m contest for three-year-old fillies after her win in the Ern Jensen Funerals Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Under Michael Walker , Brookspire ($3.80) scored a 2-¼ length win from Succeed Indeed ($26) with the $3.70 favourite Americain Angel a head away third.
Waller’s Melbourne representative Jo Taylor said the stable would monitor Brookspire through the week but said there was a strong possibility the filly could be seen in Adelaide next Saturday.
“Chris (Waller) sent her down with a bit of confidence,” Taylor said.
“There were a few options around for her but he said after working her left-handed in Sydney that he felt she worked better that way around.
“So, we opted to bring her to Melbourne and if all goes well she will be backing up and going to the Oaks in Adelaide.
“That was a very dominant performance. We’ll give her a couple of days to get over the run and then the plan is for her to travel on later in the week.”
Walker said there was a lot to like about the victory and that the filly will appreciate the rise to 2000m at Morphettville.
“Chris’ team have done a great jump placing her around this race, so onwards and upwards towards and Oaks,” Walker said.
“I could have done another lap then. I couldn’t pull her up after the race.
“She’s going that well.”
