Bryan and Daniel Guy chase Queensland Oaks place

Father and son training partners Bryan and Daniel Guy will start Protest in a midweek race at the Sunshine Coast in the hope she can earn the necessary prize money to get her into the Queensland Oaks.

The Guys are convinced Protest is up to the Group One Queensland Oaks but they have been hamstrung trying to qualify her for the race.

Protest has $18,100 prize money and will need a boost to make the Oaks field on May 26 at Doomben.

They had hoped she would get a place in the Aquis Bracelet two weeks ago or The Roses on Saturday in an attempt to boost her prize money.

In both races she was an emergency and failed to make the field on race day.

The Guys have accepted with Protest for two races at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, a Class One and a Three-Year-Old Handicap.

Both races are at 2200m which is also the distance of the Oaks.

Protest was good at her first two runs back from a spell finishing fifth at Doomben on a wet track and fourth in the Listed Princess Stakes at the Sunshine Coast.

She disappointed as favourite when sixth in a Class One at the Sunshine Coast over 1600m two weeks ago.

Bryan Guy said Protest had raced like a stayer in that race and would be better at the 2200m.

“First prize money in both races on Wednesday is $15,250 and that should just about be enough to get her into the Oaks,” Guy said.

“Protest is owned by Aquis Farms and they are obviously keen to have her in a Group on race.”

The Guys aren’t the only ones chasing a Group One race berth on Wednesday.

Toby Edmonds has Evolo in the same two races as Protest and Chris Munce has Lucky Jackson in the Three-Year-Old Handicap as both try to make the field for the Group One Queensland Derby on June 9.
