News:

Moparee hasn’t won for a year but her absence from the winner’s circle shouldn’t be interpreted as a loss of form.

The filly posted her last win at Flemington in May last year but the three-year-old has only had four starts since.

A succession of minor issues kept Moparee off the scene for 40 weeks but she has been thereabouts in four runs this season, including at her last outing when fifth in the Listed Redelva Stakes at Morphettville.

The form out of the race has held up with the runner-up Miracles Of Life blitzing her Adelaide Group Two opposition last Saturday to become one of the favourites for the Group One Goodwood.

Co-trainer Simon Zahra says the Magnus filly has trained on from her trip to South Australia and she is ready to run well in the TVN Handicap at Sandown on Wednesday.

“We were very happy with how she went in Adelaide and the trip really did her the world of good,” Zahra said.

“She’s worked really well since she got home and the drop back to benchmark 78 grade means she’s in nicely.”

Moparee will carry 55kg after apprentice Katelyn Mallyon takes her 1.5kg claim while the Peter Moody-trained Il Cavallo has the 58kg topweight.

Il Cavallo caused a stir when he broke the Sandown course record for 900m on debut in March last year but has failed to place in four subsequent starts.

Zahra and co-trainer Mat Ellerton will also run Marli Magic in the Premier Signs Handicap.

Marli Magic won a Kilmore maiden in November last year and has produced solid runs at Sale and Caulfield at her last two outings.

The Host filly chased home River Delta and Griante when fifth on April 19. Griante and River Delta showed that form was strong when they ran first and third respectively at Caulfield last Saturday.

“If Marli Magic can reproduce that run, there’s no reason she can’t run a place at least,” Zahra said.
