Race 1 – 12:50pm – First Justify Yearlings Handicap (1200m)
Sweet Baby Boom has filled the minors at both starts since debuting, and she is ready to win at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The daughter of Spirit Of Boom returned two nice trials prior to her first career start, and she has run into some potentially nice ones in races here at Canterbury.
Fitter third-up, she’s the one to beat on exposed form.
Race 2 – 1:25pm – Hellbent @ Yarraman Park Handicap (1200m)
London has opened a warm favourite in betting ahead of the second at Canterbury, and he can break his maiden.
The Capitalist colt has made just one appearance at the races so far, and finished two lengths fourth behind the likes of Fireburn and Revolutionary Miss.
That obviously reads extremely well for something like this, and the booking of the in-form Brenton Avdulla also doesn’t hurt his chances.
Race 3 – 2:00pm – Castelvecchio @ Arrowfield Handicap (1550m)
I’m going to give Naval Seal one last chance this time at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The son of Snitzel, out of Group 1 winner First Seal filled the minors at his first two, and didn’t have a lot of luck here at Canterbury last time.
He steps out this week in peak order and looks capable of winning something like this.
Race 4 – 2:35pm – Bowermans Handicap (1550m)
Smirk will take plenty of improvement into her second campaign start at Canterbury on Wednesday, and she’ll take a power of beating.
The Preferment filly broke her maiden at Newcastle in October and was immediately sent for a break, and she almost picked up where she left off with another eye-catching run for second at Newcastle earlier this month.
The rise in trip suits and she is my best bet of the day.
Race 5 – 3:10pm – Vinery Yearlings Handicap (1550m)
Chris Waller holds a strong hand in Race 5 at Canterbury on Wednesday, headlined by Za Ceibas.
Za Ceibas was a consistent performer without recording an elusive win last time in, but completed an ideal return to the races at Hawkesbury earlier this month, greeting the judge three lengths ahead of his rivals.
He harbours plenty of improvement and is drawn ideally this week under Kerrin McEvoy.
Race 6 – 3:45pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap (1900m)
Hameron has only made two appearances at the races so far, but he looks to have plenty of ability, and he can continue his rise through the grades at Canterbury on Wednesday.
The Night Of Thunder gelding stamped himself as one to watch with an easy win on debut at Ballarat, and finished second in BM64 at Ladbrokes Park last time.
Fitter third-up, dropping in the weights and under James McDonald, this looks a lovely race for him.
Race 7 – 4:20pm – Palace Pier New @ Darley Handicap (1100m)
Broken Hill hasn’t been seen at the races since December, but this is a genuine drop in class from his most recent race, and he can make a winning return.
The Lonhro colt finished third, beaten half a length on debut here in November, and broke his maiden before finishing down the order at Listed level.
I thought that there was a lot to like about his recent trial at Warwick Farm, and he looks forward enough to strike.
Race 8 – 4:55pm – Cellarbrations Handicap (1250m)
This isn’t the easiest way to end the day from a betting perspective, but I am a fan of The Art Of Flying, and I am confident that he can record another win.
The Flying Artie returned a pleasing effort to finish third in the Inglis Sprint at Flemington when resuming, and he put paid to them here last time.
This is a slightly harder task, but he has plenty of upside, and I’m happy to stick with him.
