Caulfield Guineas day at Caulfield Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 8/10/2022

This is one of the days that is marked in the racing calendar every single year during the spring carnival for racing enthusiasts.

We have a card packed full of excellent racing on Saturday and our 2022 Caulfield Guineas Day Preview can be found below.

Preview brought to you by Ladbrokes. Learn more about Ladbrokes HERE.

Race 1 – Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m)

Not keen to jump into the small field full of first starters so happy to sit the opening race out.

Bet Now: Race 1

Race 2 – Listed Weekend Hussler (1400m)

Cardinal Gem is a very progressive horse who is racing very consistently right now.

The four year old gelding has been up for a long time now so will have a fitness edge on a lot of this field.

If he can replicate his last start win at Flemington which he won by 2.5 lengths, he will be tough to beat.

Bet Now: Cardinal Gem

Race 3 – Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m)

Nanagui showed a very slick turn of foot to win at Listed level at Flemington last start and is clearly a filly with an enormous amount of upside.

She’s had two goes at 1200m for two seconds, both in black type races and she has drawn to get a lovely run in transit from barrier six.

Bet Now: Nanagui

Race 4 – Listed Village Stakes (1200m)

Gravina finished within 1.6 lengths of I Wish I Win second up in the Listed Testa Rossa at Sandown.

Back to 1200m where he has won four times from 10 career starts and he should be nearing peak fitness now.

Bet Now: Gravina

Race 5 – Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m)

Emissary couldn’t have been much more impressive when winning at Listed level first up from a spell at this track.

The five year old gelding followed that with a good fifth in the Naturalism, beaten 2.5 lengths behind Smokin’ Romans who then went on to win the Turnbull last week.

He ran to within a length of winning the Group 2 Peter Young over 1800m at this track in February and his best form has him going close in this year’s Herbert Power Stakes.

Bet Now: Emissary

Race 6 – Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m)

Paulele was full of running in the concluding stages of the Group 1 Moir Stakes at The Valley but the ever consistent gelding lost few admirers.

He will appreciate the step up to 1100m in this event which looks an easier contest as well on paper.

James McDonald steers from barrier two in the Schillaci Stakes field and anything over $2.60 looks overs to me.

Bet Now: Paulele

Race 7 – Group 1 Might And Power (2000m)

After a below par first up run in the Group 1 Winx Stakes in Sydney, Mo’unga has been excellent in his last two runs at the highest level, placing in both.

Alligator Blood and Zaaki both had a gap on their rivals in the Underwood when rounding the turn but Mo’unga showed a quick turn of foot to close the gap late and ran right through the line.

He will be ready to peak now and represents great value at his current price in Might And Power Stakes betting.

Bet Now: Mo’unga

Race 8 – Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m)

I’m happy to take on the favourite Golden Mile who was taking in the big strides toward the end of 1400m in the Golden Rose.

Elliptical has shown a sharp turn of foot at the end of his three career starts including a third at Sandown last time out.

The son of Dundeel will only improve the further he gets out in distance but is a knock out hope in this.

Lethal Thoughts looked an outstanding juvenile throughout his two year old campaign which included getting to without 1.2 lengths of the winner in the Group 1 J.J Atkins during the winter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the horses coming out of the Guineas Prelude, that was run in horrible conditions, improve greatly in this and this colt might just be one of them.

The Fortune Teller is another that has shown a sharp turn of foot and will improve greatly getting out in distance and on the good surface in the Caulfield Guineas 2022.

Bet Now: Elliptical

Race 9 – Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m)

I Wish I Win is clearly the horse to beat in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap but the progressive gelding has come up very short.

Tuvalu is another horse with plenty of upside who has a very good record and is yet to miss a place from 12 career starts.

His first up run in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes was excellent when finishing third and he drops 1kg on that effort.

He will appreciate being back on top of the ground and represents good each way value.

Bet Now: Tuvalu

Race 10 – Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m)

I thought the run of Another Award in the Group 3 How Now Stakes first up was full of merit and I’m expecting her to take a big leap forward at her second run where she has a good record.

She finished within a length and a half of Zapateo in that race and will natural progression I think she represents good each way value the Northwood Plume Stakes to close the card.

Bet Now: Another Award
