The first Group 1 feature race of the Perth Summer Carnival is only one week away, and the action continues to heat up on 2023 Champion Fillies Stakes Day!
There are nine winners to be found, and I am confident in having unearthed a few below in my 2023 Champion Fillies Stakes Day Tips.
Amelia Park Handicap (1600m) – 3:34pm AEDT
Mountain Ash has been knocking on the door of a win recently and gets another great chance at Ascot on Saturday.
The Safeguard gelding has missed placing once in his last four trips to the races, denied only by a head at each of his last two.
He’s hard fit and might not get a better opportunity to win on a Saturday, than this.
Suggested Bet: No. 7 Mountain Ash
Petaluma Handicap (1600m) – 4:11pm AEDT
Special Sort has been faultless since resuming and looms as the one to beat again in Race 2 at Ascot on Saturday.
The My Admiration gelding returned an easy winner in Class 1 company in early October and hasn’t taken a backwards step, winning each of his three subsequent starts, each tougher than its predecessor.
He’s hard fit and with even luck in running, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
Suggested Bet: No. 2 Special Sort
PKF Perth Handicap (1400m) – 4:51pm AEDT
Some talented gallopers will contest Race 3 on Champion Fillies Stakes Day, but I think it’s another perfect target for Yonga Lass.
Yonga Lass has made three appearances at the races since returning from a break, winning twice and only just missing on the other occasion.
Given how dominant she was last start, and that she is drawn ideally under William Pike, she is my best bet on the program.
Suggested Bet: No. 12 Yonga Lass
Group 3 R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m) – 5:28pm AEDT
I’m more than happy to stick with Magnificent Andy when he goes around in the RJ Peters Stakes this weekend.
Magnificent Andy was simply too far back in a 1200m race here at his latest, but there’s no doubt that he was doing his best work late.
His form prior to that included consecutive races wins, including a Listed race out at Kalgoorlie, and a repeat of either performance would see him into the finish of this. He’s hard fit, and I’m keen to see him further out in trip.
Suggested Bet: No. 6 Magnificent Andy
Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) – 6:07pm AEDT
Keshi Boom is undefeated in three career starts and has opened a clear, odds-on favourite in 2023 WA Champion Fillies Stakes betting.
Each performance has been an improvement on the one prior, and Keshi Boom was way too good for them in the Burgess Queen Stakes, last time out.
I think she’ll win again, but she is too short for me at that price, so I am instead going to select her as the winner in a Same Race Multi and build out my bet further with Generosity running into the first three.
Same Race Multi selections:
- 3 Keshi Boom (Win)
- 6 Generosity (Top 3)
Suggested Bet: Same Race Multi
Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m) – 6:40pm AEDT
Rusty Dreams steps out this week second-up and ready to strike.
The Universal Ruler mare has been a consistent performer throughout her career, recording five wins from nine starts and placing a further three times.
She returned to action to finish third, beaten just over half a length over this route, and she was an impressive winner at her only other second-up appearance.
Suggested Bet: No. 4 Rusty Dreams
Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) – 7:17pm AEDT
Former easter coaster Clemenceau will make his Perth debut in Saturday’s Colonel Reeves Stakes, and his best form is certainly good enough to win.
Clemenceau returned plenty of good performances during his time for Team Hawkes, but he has been a frustrating one at times for punters.
This sort of race is probably a drop in class from what he has been contesting most recently, and he’s had the benefit of a trial in the lead-up to Saturday’s return.
At around the $10 mark (at publish), we can have an each way play.
Suggested Bet: No. 3 Clemenceau
Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) – 7:55pm AEDT
Oscar’s Fortune is another undefeated galloper that looks tough to beat again on Champions Fillies Stakes Day.
Oscar’s Fortune stamped himself as one to watch with a dominant win on debut at Belmont back in August, and he has only improved with each start since, culminating in another victory in the Prelude to this race a fortnight ago.
He’s hard fit, and it’s the next logical step for him!
Suggested Bet: No. 3 Oscar’s Fortune
Bisley Workwear Handicap (1200m) – 8:33pm AEDT
Team Casey holds a strong hand in the last on Champion Fillies Stakes Day with Capricorn Man and Rear Admiral, and I am going to have something on the latter.
Rear Admiral has won four of her eight career starts to date, placing a further two times and finding form around some classy opposition.
She returned to action with a nice performance to fill the minors at this track and trip earlier this month, and she is yet to miss placing at this point of her preparation.
Suggested Bet: No. 13 Rear Admiral
