Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 25/2/2023

The Sydney Autumn Carnival kicks up another gear at Royal Randwick on Saturday and the Chipping Norton Stakes is one of two Group 1 features.

Won by a host of champions throughout its storied existence, including equine superstar Winx on three-consecutive occasions, the Chipping Norton has always been a ‘good horses race’, and names like Anamoe, Mo’unga and Fangirl don the acceptances this year.

You can find my 2023 Chipping Norton Stakes Tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 6 Units straight out #1 Anamoe
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below

Chipping Norton Stakes – Winner

No real surprises here – I’ve Anamoe on top of my Chipping Norton numbers.

Simply put, he’s the best horse currently going around in Australasia, he added a Cox Plate to his CV at the end of his spring prep, and he returned to win the Apollo Stakes a fortnight ago, despite apparently not being at his best.

He strips fitter, he’s drawn well and James McDonald rides.

The $1.65 about him in Chipping Norton Stakes betting at publish is justified.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Anamoe

Chipping Norton Stakes – 2nd

I’m tipping the Apollo Stakes quinella to re-materialise in the Chipping Norton, and Hinged can run another good race at a lovely price ($12 at publish).

The Worthy Cause mare went to a new level under the care of Chris Waller last autumn, recording her first Group 1 victory in the Surround Stakes at this meeting, and she was unlucky not to add another during a smart spring prep.

Her second-up record is excellent, a mile suits and she’s drawn to receive a lovely run from barrier 4.

Suggested Bet: No. 12 Hinged

Chipping Norton Stakes – 3rd

Multiple Group 1 winner Mo’unga takes his place in the Chipping Norton Stakes field second-up, and I think that he’ll run his usual honest race.

It has been a while between drinks for the talented son of Savabeel, but he has continued to perform well on the highest stage without winning.

His fresh run for fifth in the Apollo Stakes was decent, and he’s another who will only improve for it!

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Mo’unga

Chipping Norton Stakes – 4th

Tossing in a bit of a bolter at a price here, and I think that Knights Order can lead them into the straight and be in it for a long way.

The veteran son of So You Think ended his autumn prep last year and an incredible win in the Sydney Cup, and returned a superior fresh performance to win the Chelmsford Stakes in spring over this route.

He ran third in the Caulfield Cup, ninth in the Melbourne Cup and has had the benefit of a couple of trials leading up to his return.

The booking of Timmy Clark doesn’t hurt his chances, either.

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Knights Order
