The first of two Group 1 feature races for three-year-olds on Day 4 of Royal Ascot will see a classy field of colts and geldings and four fillies assemble for the Commonwealth Cup!
This is always a terrific contest, and one that has been claimed plenty of times by something at a decent quote in Commonwealth Cup betting.
I’m on the hunt for value again, and you can find all of my 2023 Commonwealth Cup Tips below.
Suggested Bets
- 5 Units straight out #2 Little Big Bear
- Boxed Trifecta of the selections below
Commonwealth Cup – Winner
He has opened an even money favourite in Commonwealth Cup betting, but I think he’s just the best horse in the race, and I am keen to stick with Little Big Bear.
The No Nay Never colt has won five of seven career starts to date, and despite finishing at the tail of the field at Newmarket first-up this time, he responded with an easy win in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes last time out.
Fitter third-up, this looks his Group 1 race, and he’ll be given every chance again by Ryan Moore.
Suggested Bet: No. 2 Little Big Bear
Commonwealth Cup – 2nd
Shaquille’s record is almost faultless, and I understand why he has attracted such big interest in early Commonwealth Cup betting ($14 into $11 at Neds).
The Charm Spirit colt has won four of five starts, with his only miss coming in black type company.
This is easily the toughest task that he has been set, but he steps out third-up this week and following a couple of annihilation jobs at Newmarket and Newbury, and he has drawn an absolute peach in barrier 4.
Suggested Bet: No. 8 Shaquille
Commonwealth Cup – 3rd
One galloper that I did think was over the odds in Commonwealth Cup betting is Marbaan ($27 at publish).
The Oasis Dream colt has recorded three wins and a minor from his eight career starts to date and has improved for two back this time, only just missing at Salisbury last time out.
Aussie punters will know his trainer, Charlie Fellowes, from the memorable Melbourne Cup campaigns of Prince Of Arran, and I’m quietly confident this bloke can return the stable a big result.
Suggested Bet: No. 3 Marbaan
Commonwealth Cup – 4th
Godolphin colt Noble Style is another that wouldn’t look out of place in the Commonwealth Cup winner’s stall.
Having won each of his first three career starts last year, including the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York in August, the Kingman colt has improved for two starts back this time, and was last seen finishing third behind Shaquille.
I’m not sure he has the means to turn the tables on that horse this week, but I still think he’ll run very well.
Suggested Bet: No. 5 Noble Star
