All leading contenders stood their ground at pay-up time, including Gloaming Stakes winner Complacent as well as placegetters Savvy Nature and Drago, for the 2000m race at Randwick on Saturday.
Complacent has drawn barrier one, the same gate from which he won the Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill on September 28.
Savvy Nature and Drago have drawn in the middle of the field in gates eight and nine respectively.
Christian Reith will renew ties with Complacent, taking over from Kerrin McEvoy who will be in Melbourne to ride stablemate and race favourite Long John in the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday.
Trainer David Payne has a strong Spring Champion hand after accepting with Criterion and last week’s Dulcify Quality winner Rock Hero.
Gai Waterhouse also has two runners – Liberty’s Choice and Equator.
