Punters with online bookmaker sportsbet have rallied behind forgotten horse It’s A Dundeel for Saturday’s Cox Plate.
The Kiwi champion had his preparation interrupted by injury, but he is now the best backed runner with sportsbet.com.au following the withdrawal of star mare Atlantic Jewel.
sportsbet.com.au refunded almost $250,000 to punters who backed Atlantic Jewel to win the Cox Plate after the mare was scratched yesterday, with the refund including all futures bets and multis.
Despite the go for It’s A Dundeel, who is second favourite at $4.20, it’s Puissance De Lune who heads the betting at $4.00 for the Moonee Valley Group 1.
“It’s A Dundeel has had three times the support of any other runner, which is not surprising following the scratching of Atlantic Jewel. Puissance De Lune is still popular, but punters obviously have no fitness fears on the Kiwi,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
Fiorente remains on the third line of betting at $4.80, ahead of Long John at $7.50, while Happy Trails, $17 into $15, has also had solid support and money has also come for Green Moon, who’s into $19 from $21.
With such a wide open race, sportsbet.com.au will refund punters their bet on the Cox Plate should their selection run second or third.
