Doomben Races Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 22/7/2023

We’re back to Doomben on Saturday, July 22nd for another quality nine-race program.

I’ve dug deep into the form of every runner and race, and you can find my complete Doomben Tips below.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?

Racecourse Village QTIS 2YO Fillies Handicap (1200m) – 11:58am

Sydneysider Star Act steps out this week third-up and ready to win.

The Snitzel filly finished midfield behind the likes of Taormina on debut at Warwick Farm last month and hit the line to finish second, beaten only a head at his only other appearance at Canterbury.

Fitter third-up, I’m confident that she’ll acquit herself well in Brisbane Saturday metro company.

Suggested Bet: No. 4 Star Act

Bet Now: Doomben Race 1

Teddy Bears Picnic At The Races Class 3 Plate (2020m) – 12:33pm

The consistent Chayse ‘N’ Artie takes his place in the second at Doomben on Saturday and can return to winning rom.

The Flying Artie gelding has missed placing once in his last five trips to the races, winning in Class 1 company at Eagle Farm two back before only just missing at his latest.

He’s hard-fit and the 2000m looks ideal.

Suggested Bet: No. 8 Chayse ‘N’ Artie

Bet Now: Doomben Race 2

BRC Membership On Sale Now BM90 Handicap (2020m) – 1:08pm

There is a case to be made for a few of them in he third at Doomben on Saturday, and I thought that Stardome had claims at a nice price ($9.50 at publish).

Stardome finished down the order in a couple of races earlier this season and was given a freshen up, and I thought that his performance over a mile a couple of weeks ago was one of a horse crying out for a longer trip.

He gets that this week, and we can have an each way play at the price.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Stardome

Bet Now: Doomben Race 3

Cascade Fillies & Mares No Metro Wins Handicap (1110m) – 1:43pm

I’m keen to stick with Inasec at Doomben on Saturday.

Inasec won comfortably in BM72 company up at Toowoomba back in late April and with her runs spaced since, she has finished second at each of her three subsequent appearances.

A photo was required to separate her from Skidamarink last time out, and I think she can go one better under these conditions.

Suggested Bet: No. 6 Inasec

Bet Now: Doomben Race 4

Sky Racing Class 6 Handicap (1615m) – 2:18pm

Ashgrove is another galloper that I’m expecting to improve noticeably second-up at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Dundeel gelding was a model of consistency last time in and ended his prep with a lovely win over 2000m here, and he found a few good horses like Blaze A Trail just a little too sharp here first-up from a break.

With improvement, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the thick of it late.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Ashgrove

Bet Now: Doomben Race 5

XXXX Dry QTIS 3YO Handicap (1050m) – 2:57pm

Vodka Martini looks a rather clear standout top pick in Race 6, in my opinion.

The Agitate gelding is yet to miss placing in six trips to the races, winning three times and finding form around some classy opposition.

He finished second behind a very impressive Freedom Rally at Eagle Farm last weekend, and without a horse of that calibre engaged, this bloke is my best on the program.

Suggested Bet: No. 7 Vodka Martini

Bet Now: Doomben Race 6

Ladbrokes Mates Mode CG&E No Metro Wins Handicap (1110m) – 3:37pm

Ready For Anything returned an eye-catching performance to win at Eagle Farm fresh from a break, and this looks a great opportunity for him to make it two.

The Better Than Ready gelding produced some typically good performances last time in, winning over 1350m here at Doomben most notably, but I thought the way that he put them away when resuming this time suggested he’s returned a better horse.

With further improvement and luck from the draw, he’ll be mighty tough to best again.

Suggested Bet: No. 12 Ready For Anything

Bet Now: Doomben Race 7

Country Music Raceday 9 September Open Handicap (1200m) – 4:13pmq

Roman Aureus was too good for them in the Rockhampton Newmarket fresh from a break, and he can go one with it back here in Brisbane this week.

The Red Element gelding has been a great horse throughout his career, and he has typically kept his best performances for early in his preparations.

From the good draw and with some relief in the weights, he’s certainly up to it!

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Roman Aureus

Bet Now: Doomben Race 8

Gallopers Sports Club BM78 Handicap (1350m) – 4:48pm

I’m sticking with the Rockhampton Newmarket form in the last at Doomben on Saturday as well, and second placegetter Princess Tenko can be in the finish.

The Real Impact mare was a dominant winner over 1200m fresh from a break, and she was only just nailed by Roman Aureus last time.

She has drawn horrifically into this contest but does look up to the grade with even luck in transit.

Suggested Bet: No. 8 Princess Tenko

Bet Now: Doomben Race 9
