Doomben Races Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 28/10/2023

We’re off to Doomben on Saturday, October 28th for another quality ten-race program in Brisbane on the same day The Valley hosts the Ladbrokes Cox Plate in Melbourne.

I’ve run the rule over every galloper engaged, and you can find my complete Doomben Tips below.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?

Ladbrokes Cox Plate Raceday Filles & Mares Class 6 Handicap (1350m) – 12:38pm AEDT

Argyle Pink has returned a couple of competitive performances back from a break, and she looks to be a key winning chance at Doomben on Saturday.

The Star Witness mare has placed in two of three, including an eye-catching performance at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago, in which she was just over a half a length behind the winner.

She’s hard fit this week and might not be offered a better opportunity in Saturday metro company.

Suggested Bet: No. 5 Argyle Pink

Bet Now: Doomben Race 1

Ladbrokes Anamoe 2022 BM78 Handicap (2000m) – 1:13pm AEDT

Blackcomb has been strong and consistent since transferring to the Lees yard this time in, and she strikes another very winnable race in Brisbane on Saturday.

The Vancouver mare returned some good efforts under the care of Danny O’Brien earlier in her career, but the decision to move her on this time has already paid dividends, and she has won two of three back from a break, including a similar race over 1830m at Eagle Farm last time.

The 2000m is ideal, and with even luck, I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Blackcomb

Bet Now: Doomben Race 2

Ladbrokes State Of Rest 2021 QTIS 2YO Handicap (1110m) -1:48pm AEDT

Mishani Rock has returned two nice performances since debuting, and I am happy to stick with him in the third at Doomben on Saturday.

Having stamped himself as one to watch by winning the Pat O’Shea on Weetwood Day on debut, the Kobayashi gelding progressed into another decent performance to finish second at Eagle Garm last time.

He’s open to plenty more improvement and something like this does look the next logical target.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Mishani Rock

Bet Now: Doomben Race 3

Ladbrokes Sir Dragonet 2020 Class 3 Plate (1600m) – 2:23pm AEDT

Rising Pacific is chasing a hat-trick this weekend at Doomben and rates as a key winning chance again.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding improved for two competitive performances first and second up from a break, before returning to winning form out at Ipswich last month.

Having franked that performance with arguably his most dominant since debuting last time out, he’s clearly in peak order, and Damien Thornton understandably keeps the ride.

Suggested Bet: No. 4 Rising Pacific

Bet Now: Doomben Race 4

Ladbrokes Lys Gracieux 2019 BM68 Handicap (1110m) – 2:58pm AEDT

The consistent Devastating goes around in Race 5 and rates as a key winning chance again.

Devastating is yet to miss placing in five runs back from a break, winning in Class 3 company in August most notably, while hitting the line well at his latest.

He gets some relief in the weights this week under Cejay Graham, and he should be able to find a nice position in running from an inside draw.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Devastating

Bet Now: Doomben Race 5

Ladbrokes Winx 2018 Class 3 Plate (1200m) – 3:33pm AEDT

This looks to be one of the more open races on the program and there is a case to be made for a few of them, including Midnight In Tokyo.

Midnight In Tokyo did mix her form a little earlier in her prep, but her better performances were eye-catching, and she wasn’t disgraced in races like the South Pacific Classic and the Mick Dittman Plate last time in.

She has been transferred to the care of Annabel Neasham this time in, and there is no doubt that this race is a drop in class from what we last saw her in.

With luck from the wide draw, I think she’s got a lot of these covered for class.

Suggested Bet: No. 15 Midnight In Tokyo

Bet Now: Doomben Race 6

Ladbroke It! QTIS 3YO Open (1200m) – 4:12pm AEDT

Another strong race with several winning chances engaged, but I am going to have something on the second-up Addriel.

Addriel has missed placing only once in four previous trips to the races, and he made his return with a nice effort to fill the minors, beaten only a length and a half by a fit Show Me Mercy at Eagle Farm last month.

He won his only other second-up start to far, and he gets into this race extremely well under Damien Thornton.

Suggested Bet: No. 7 Addriel

Bet Now: Doomben Race 7

Ladbrokes Racing Club C,G&E Class 6 Handicap (1350m) – 4:57pm AEDT

Preach is another galloper chasing a hat-trick at Doomben on Saturday, and he’s another that I am keen to stick with.

The Flying Artie gelding’s runs have been spaced, and that really does look to have been the key to him.

Having comfortably accounted for a similar field at Eagle Farm last time out, he need only hold his form to be in the finish again on Saturday.

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Preach

Bet Now: Doomben Race 8

Ladbrokes Communities BM80 Handicap (1600m) – 5:42pm AEDT

Eagles Crag is a dual acceptor in Brisbane on Saturday, but I thought that this looked the nicer option for him, and I’m hopeful that his team elect to go this way.

Eagles Crag returned some nice efforts in Victoria under the care of a couple of notable trainers, and he finished off well for second, beaten in a photo at Eagle Farm first-up for Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted.

His second-up record is outstanding, and if he does run in this race, he’s going to be my best bet on the program.

Suggested Bet: No. 11 Eagles Crag

Bet Now: Doomben Race 9

Ladbrokes Odds Surge BM78 Handicap (1200m) – 6:20pm AEDT

I’m keen to see Millane first-up in the last at Doomben on Saturday.

The Zoustar entire has returned some nice performances during his career, and while winning only the one race in ten appearances, he hasn’t been out of his depth in black type company.

His one win did come at this point of his preparation previously, and this looks a lovely campaign launchpad for him.

Suggested Bet: No. 8 Millane

Bet Now: Doomben Race 10
